Portillo - Great Skiing in Chile

The oldest and best skiing resort i South America must be the Portillo Ski Resort. It has been the place to be for over 60 years now and the place is stunning. The resort has this one hotel but with all different kinds of accommodations from deluxe to the more simple hostel like rooms within it. This gives a great mix of people. The slopes in the Andes as great and filled with dry snow. You now have 14 ski lifts in the area and some special ones that brings you up into real cool off pist areas. The best time to be here is the month of July. It's a 2 hours ride up here from Santiago de Chile passing the vineyards.
Here in South America the pace is slower then other places in the world and people take their time for a long barbeque of great beef or afternoon tea time.
So come here during the summer when the skiing resorts of the northern parts of the world are closed and you will be skiing with the North American and European national teams during their summer training that they always spend here at Portillo.  I am sure the new generation with Michael directing it will continue the great job that his father did for those 60 years.
