|In the mountain town of Takayama at the station they do sell ekiben ( boxlunchen) to bring on to the train as they do at almost every station in Japan. These boxes are both healthy, fresh and have nice presentation. The region on Hida were Takayama is located is famous for good Hida beef. Here at the train station you can buy a box lunch that you can't find at many places around Japan. The box has something in the part under the food that as you pull the thread that comes out of a small hole that part starts to get hot and in 5 minutes you beef dish is cooked. Don't ask me how it works but everyone just loves it when the nice smell of cooked beef comes out as you open the lid! A must buy in Takayama as you leave with the train!|
