SOUP STOCK TOKYO has since it's opening 1999 in Odaiba, Tokyo is constantly expanding in Japan. It is a great way to eat a light lunch or dinner in Japan. Here you get a soup, a curry with rice and a drink for 1290 Yen ( 11 US  dollars)  and that is their most pricy meal. You can chose from many different soups. On the picture you can see a lobster bisque. a chicken & tomato curry with a fresh ginger drink.

Japan Rail Pass - The best and cheapest way to travel in Japan!

The best way to travel in Japan is to travel with a Rail Pass. There are many regional passes to chose from but if you want to travel all over Japan the best way is to buy a JR Japan Rail Pass. This pass can be bought for 7,14 or 21 days both in ordinary and green car (first class) A 7 day pass has the same price as a round trip from Tokyo Narita Airport to the city of Kyoto. The rest is just a bonus. This pass has to be bought outside Japan. When you enter to Japan you will get a stamp in your passport that shows that you are a tourist and permits you to exchange the voucher to the actual Railpass. You can travel on most trains but be careful check if the Railpass is working on the train that you wish to take. When you have your Railpass in Japan you can make your seat reservations at any station for free. It's a great way to travel Japan. A good thing to do is to use the Railpass in the middle of a longer trip to Japan.

Cash is king in Japan - Travelex

At more and more places you can pay with credit card in Japan but as soon as you go to local markets, many restaurants, nightclubs, small shops etc you will have to pay with cash. As Japan is a very safe country you should not feel uncomfortable having cash with you.
You should bring some Japanese Yen with you from home to be on the safe side. At 7Eleven or at post offices you can make cash advances. It is very easy!
If you bring cash you have to find an Exchange Office were you can change your money to Japanse Yen. Travelex is the biggest company but they are really not everywere. This one is at the the Shinagawa station in Tokyo. Remember that they are only open office hours!

Eat on a shoestring in Japan

People tend to think that Japan is an expensive country to travel to. That is not the case any longer as the Yen is now lower then in a long time. But if you are still on a budget you can always pick up some great street food at any noodle stall. For 3-5 dollars you can get a great meal. Just find a noodle shop with a machine outside. Put some yen into the machine and then walk to the counter with your ticket that you got from the machine. Wait for a while and then pick up your hot filling noodles! Enjoy!

What is important to remember is that Japan is still very much a cash country. Many places like small shops and restaurants as well as ryokans in the countryside will only take cash. Therefor it is very important in this safe country to carry more cash then you might be used to. Not all ATM that you see serves you using an international card. The best place to go is to the post office during office hours and the 7 Eleven stores that are open around the clock. There is no problem to get change on large bills at any place!
