Panjiayuan Flea Market in Beijing, China

I have been coming to this Flea Market since it started over 20 years ago when it was called the "dirt market". Here people used to come from the country side with antiques to sell to the people of Beijing to earn some money. The days when you could find great old things are gone but it is still a fun place to pick up things to decorate your house. The market is open every day but during weekends people still come here to sell some of their own things. Here you find a lot of copies of antiques, old books. Mao memorabilia, photos, ceramics etc. Have fun and bargain a lot! The earlier the better on Saturdays or Sundays is better. I am usually there about 05.00 in the morning!
Panjiayuan is situated by the 3rd East Ring Road in Beijing.

Great Wall at Jingshanling, Beijing

There are several places to visit The Great Wall of China. Badaling is the easiest to reach but there you will find the big crowds, Starbucks and McDonald's. Mutenyu is a lot nicer but still with easy access.
If you want to get away from the big crows and the tourist groups you should go to Jingshanling. It is about 120 km from Beijing and the new highway to Chengde makes it suitable for a day trip. Here you can have parts of the wall for yourself if you avoid the national holidays and weekends. When you get to the wall you can enter on one side and walk for about 10 km and then get down close to were you started. There is a skilift to get up in the middle for the ones that does not want to climb the wall, but Jingshanling is more for the people that are fit for walk.
The best way to reach Jingshanling is to hire a taxi for a day from your hotel or to take the local bus that goes to Chengde every hour and get of on the highway or to take the touristbus that leaves from Dongzhimen bus terminal every morning. Check the schedules with your hotel as they may change. Entrance is 50 Yuan.
Bring a picnic and have a great day at the Great Wall!

Wangfujing Nightmarket in Beijing

Wangfujing Nightmarket is the place in Beijing to visit if you want to try some strange food. This market opens around 17.00 and goes on until 21.00 so it is not open late as the name may suggest.
Here you find everything that you would not even think that you can eat. Bugs, scorpions, snake, frogs and a lot of different things in the over 100 different small food stalls.
The market is located in the corner och Wangfujing street and Dongdan 3rd Alley.

798 Art Zone, Beijing

I simply can not make a trip to Beijing without a visit to some of the over 100 modern art galleries at 798 Art Zone in the north-east part of town. Since year 2000 this has been the growing and most important place to see the art that is produced in China today. The area is often called the Soho of Beijing. Here you can spend a full day visiting galleries, do some shopping of cool things and sip a latte in the terraces of one of all the cafés. Show the Chinese writing bellow to a taxi driver! Open from 09.00-17.00 daily.

The Legend of Kung Fu show, Beijing

If you want to see the strength of the Kung Fu fighters in a great evening show in Beijing you have to visit the The Red Theatre.  This is one of the best shows i China. The story is about a young boy left in a temple by his mother and we will follow how he becomes a great master of Kung Fu. You will see them perform things you have never seen before in  this Chinese style Las Vegas show! Suites young and old alike!
The show is 1 hour 10 minutes and tickets can be bought in the theatre, at hotels and some budget booking offices.
